"How Do I Get Into Woodworking?" |
|
|
We're often asked: "How do I get into woodworking?"
The question is simple but the answer isn't. Many factors come into play including experience working with your hands, how many tools you want to purchase, workshop size, etc.
That said, if pressed for a simple answer about basic construction, we'd say this: Get into pocket-screw joinery. This means you'll get to know Kreg; the company has pretty much cornered the market on pocket screws.
With woodworking, much of the challenge — and satisfaction — is in joining the pieces you've cut and sanded. How well you join them says a lot about your skills. As we discovered recently in a vanity project, Kreg's kits are simple to use (see videos), don't require many tools or equipment and can make you look good — even better than you really are as a woodworker.
Pocket screws often hide the signs of joinery while providing a strong joint in a variety of applications. And because you'll find success with them, pocket screws are typically a gateway to even more woodworking projects. If interested, you can download project plans that use pocket screws, including a garage cabinet (see photo).
