July 16, 2009 WWII Aircraft Gauges in your Street Machine?
Who didn't grow up assembling models of WWII planes as a kid? Maybe a P-51 Mustang with 1,600 horse power hitting speeds of over 400 mph, or a B-29 Superfortress that could lift 62 tons six miles in the air and travel from New York to LA without refueling.
After the war, the combat grade surplus gauges from these aircraft started popping up in custom cars as hot rodders sought out the cheapest, toughest parts at their disposal. Now these gauges are virtually unattainable, but thanks to the design skills of Steve Moal, their style is revisited in the Bomber Bezel series from Classic Instruments. Their 6 gauge set has the functionality of razor sharp readings, LED's and easily installed connectors housed in the heavy duty look of seventy year old cockpits. Have a look at the Bomber Bezels from CI and some of their other new offerings on their new products page.
