June 23, 2009 Engine Turning, But not at Idle
Engine Turning or "Jeweling" was all the rage in the 20's-40's and still leaves it's mark of distinction on contemporary custom builds.
In a world of mass produced trim and clean lines, the workmanship it requires hearkens back to an era when many cars were crafted one at a time by hand, in a similar way to your labor of love in the garage. The concept of engine turning is simple, with each metal swirl being painstakingly applied with a drill press, wooden dowel, and abrasive compound. Doing it well takes years of practice. FPM Metals carries on this tradition with premade products for many applications as well as doing your custom work in Aluminum or Stainless Steel in sizes up to 48" by 96". Check out some of the standard dashboard applications on FPM's website.
