March 17, 2009 Spark Plug Split: Laugh Or Cry
The notorious spark plug issues with Ford's Triton Engines of the last few years are well documented. If the aluminum threads aren't letting plugs shoot out of the head, the electrode shield is crusting up and sticking to it, only giving you the top half of a plug upon removal.
This is big news whether you own a Ford or not. If you're a GM / Chrysler guy you can give your Ford buddies a hard time and if you own a Mustang, F150, Explorer or Expedition built in the last few years, you can easily remedy the situation with a new spark plug from Champion engineered as a direct replacement with a bullet proof design. There are tools available to remove the original plugs but prevention is the best option if you're able to get the Motorcraft plugs out before they take hold. Champion's Double Platinum Power one piece design not only holds together under stress, it's extended ceramic, heat active alloy, J-gap design gives a sharp spark and virtually eliminates misfire-causing flashover. Here's a link to stop by Summit Racing's website and pick a set up.
