November 28, 2008 Taking the Step from Drums to Discs on Your Camaro
Your first generation Camaro was built well for its day, but you've been adding components that make it move faster and its stock brakes won't be able to keep up with the power surge.
If you find yourself intimidated by thousands of dollars worth of brake upgrades you might be in luck. Rick's First Generation Camaros has a complete kit that allows you to convert to disc brakes from drums for less than $600. This package not only includes the large items like rotors, spindles, calipers, and master cylinder, it also includes the smaller pieces you'd spend hours driving around to find independently, like the correct banjo bolts, hoses, and seals. Some "kits" only give you calipers and rotors, but drum brake master cylinders don't provide the fluid capacity necessary for disc brakes. Considerations like this make upgrading your whole braking system a must. If your car's able to comfortably climb to triple digit speeds it needs to be able to shut down that speed just as easily. From simple bolt on brake upgrades for the front of your first gen Camaro to complex high performance systems for all four wheels, there are many options to explore for your street machine...so dig in!
