Club Member Gary Bell had never won more than a $30 gift certificate at a golf scramble. Yet, like many members, he routinely entered the Great Golf Getaway, hoping that some day ...
Well, his someday was last May; he received a certified letter from the Partners Club saying he had won a round for two at Pebble Beach, which had been on his "bucket list" big time. "My wife, Connie, said I was bouncing off the ceiling," writes Bell.
Since Connie doesn't golf, Bell chose Connie's son, Mike, to play with him. Mike said "Ummm ... maybe." Kidding. They played August 11th, and the full story covers the trip in detail. Below are Bell's comments about the famous 7th hole (pictured):
"The 7th hole is one of the most scenic par 3's in golf and a scary little shot from the tee on what looks almost like a golf hole in miniature. After seeing Mike's ball flight, I held my breath and aimed 20 yards right of the flag out into the ocean. In light wind mind you, the ball curved that far back and landed right on the green behind the flag—a memorable shot for me."
