Some resorts have alternative golf experiences such as nine-hole short courses and miniature 18-hole putting courses to accommodate guests who don't have five hours to play a championship layout. Here's a sampling:
Lansdowne Resort, Lansdowne, Virginia. The Shark Bite 9, designed by Greg Norman, has five par-4s and four par-3s from 420 yards down to 144 yards. Championship 18-hole layouts are also available.
Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort, Shawnee on Delaware, Pennsylvania. The lighted Tillinghast Approach Course has six holes located throughout a driving range and three holes that are part of the famous Tillinghast Golf Academy.
Sun Valley Resort, Sun Valley, Idaho. Like the famed "Himalayas Course" at St. Andrews, the "Sawtooths" 18-hole putting course (52,000 square feet) is family friendly but also a test for accomplished golfers.
Treetops Resort, Gaylord, Michigan (see photo). Recognized as one the of world's best par-3 golf courses, this nine-hole gem offers elevation changes from 90 to 170 feet. Treetops also offers four, championship layouts.
Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando, Florida. The Fairways course at Fantasia Gardens at Walt Disney World Resort measures 1,448 feet long and is the longest mini-course in the world.
