Driver Quest Final:
Bought a Brand New Big Dog

Goal: Buy a 2009 driver
Why? Callaway Hawkeye ain't cutting it anymore (buy for $9.95)
Plan: Before purchasing, test drivers from Adams (reviewed), Callaway (reviewed), Cleveland (reviewed), Cobra (reviewed), Nike (reviewed), Ping (reviewed), TaylorMade (reviewed) and Titleist (reviewed)

Choice of Gary Legwold (Web Editor): Ping Rapture V2

• I dropped out of the driver scene for a decade, but I re-enter a market that's humming with hum-dinger drivers that really do make drives longer and straighter. It's clear that manufacturers do all they can to make us look good off the tee.
• DQ Finalists: Callaway Big Bertha Diablo, Nike SQ DYMO STR8-FIT, Ping Rapture V2 and TaylorMade R9.
• It came down to the V2 and R9. The illusion of control offered by R9's wealth of adjustments is tempting. I still may go that route—only I'll wait to see how the moving parts of the clubhead and shaft hold up.
• The V2 is a classy club with a slight draw look, which calms my inner pusher, and external tungsten weights, which increase club stability. Because I was instantly and consistently longer and straighter, the V2 was the early frontrunner that withstood all challengers. Best of all, I no longer dread driving during a round. I look forward to it.
