Driver Quest VIII:
Buying a Brand New Big Dog
Goal: Buy a 2009 driver
Why? Callaway Hawkeye ain't cutting it anymore (buy for $9.95)
Plan: Before purchasing, test drivers from Adams (reviewed), Callaway, Cleveland (reviewed), Cobra (reviewed), Nike (reviewed), Ping (reviewed), TaylorMade (reviewed) and Titleist (reviewed)

Today: Callaway Big Bertha Diablo
  • Never get tired of that name, Big Bertha, and Diablo is a perfect addition.
  • All-titanium with hyperbolic face for making you look good when you hit the ball badly off-center.
  • Weight is trimmed off the top, allowing for an internal chip in the sole that lowers CG and improves MOI.
  • Draw and neutral head shapes that have a slightly elongated, angled back edge.
  • S2H2 design removes weight from the hosel and repositions it in the perimeter of the clubhead to add stability.
Choice of Gary Legwold (Web Editor): I mostly pushed my drives with the neutral Diablo but had my highest swing speed of all—and some of my longest drives—with the draw Diablo. It made my A team, along with the previous frontrunners Ping Rapture V2, Nike SQ DYMO STR8-FIT and the TaylorMade R9.

Video: Rocco on the Diablo.

Comfortable and lightweight NOYZ sunglasses.
