Wow—Wales and Scotland!
Boasting new golf courses and supportive tourism infrastructures, these golf destinations have the welcome mat out in 2009:

Wales: Remember how the 2006 Ryder Cup showcased Ireland as a golf destination? Get ready for the same to happen to Wales, which will host the Ryder Cup in 2010. Wales will shine because:
  1. It has more than 170 courses
  2. Green fees are about one-third less than Scotland and Ireland
  3. Wales has more castles per square mile than any country. Who doesn't like castles?
"Must play" courses: Machrihanish, Scotland: The quaint, uncommercialized Machrihanish will introduce itself as a bonafide golf destination in May with the debut of David McLay Kidd's Machrihanish Dunes.

The undulating layout is the first 18-hole links golf course to be built on the western coast of Scotland in 100 years. It features six greens and five tees at ocean's edge.

Nearby is Machrihanish Golf Club, laid out by Old Tom Morris in 1879, plus such world-renowned courses as Turnberry, Prestwick and Royal Troon.
