A White Ball That's "Green"
"Go for the green" now has a double meaning.

Most golf balls are made with non-recyclable materials, and some contain tungsten, cobalt and lead that are dangerous to the environment. And so it's intriguing that Dixon Golf has a new "eco-friendly" ball called Earth. Earth's core, says Dixon, is made from a proprietary polymer that maintains its playable properties but is 100 percent renewable. In addition to the core, the entire ball and packaging are made with recyclable materials.

Dixon has manufactured golf balls for several well-known companies for years, so the company has the know-how. Earth, however, is its first proprietary ball.

"We were trying to figure out what our niche could be in the market because we've seen a lot of manufacturing going overseas," says Dixon Golf President Dane Platt. "We noticed that with products out of China, you get many with lead paint and not quite the quality you hope for."

How does it play? Earth ($39.95 per dozen) looks and feels like any other ball and plays - perhaps to some people's surprise - just as well if not better than most two-piece balls.
