September 10, 2008 World Golf Hall of Fame:
Big Laughs and Golf History If you find yourself taking golf too seriously, you need some Hope—a healthy dose of Bob Hope.
"Golf is a game that needlessly prolongs the lives of some of our most useless citizens," once quipped Hope, nicknamed "Old Ski Nose." He died in 2003, and for decades was golf's unofficial course jester. Now you can immerse yourself in the golf world of Bob Hope at the World Golf Hall of Fame at World Golf Village, near St. Augustine, FL. The "Bob Hope: Shanks for the Memory" exhibit will be on display starting in November and throughout 2009. The display will feature artifacts from his movie-and-entertainment career as well as numerous golf items. Hope played more than 2,000 golf courses around the world, often with celebrities, professionals and presidents. He also developed and hosted the PGA TOUR's Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. With hundreds of exhibits and displays, the World Golf Hall of Fame is the game's museum answer to pro football's in Canton, OH, and baseball's in Cooperstown, NY.
