Ocean Course:
Nature + Nicklaus = Nice
In Palm Coast, FL, nature and Jack Nicklaus have saved the best for last. Nature presented Nicklaus with probably the last piece of developable oceanfront property on Florida's East Coast, between Daytona Beach and Jacksonville. By designing The Ocean Course at Hammock Beach, the Golden Bear didn't disappoint. Indeed, the Ocean Course hosts the annual Ginn Championship on the Champions Tour, won last March by Bernhard Langer.

Six of the holes on the 7,201-yard, par-72 layout overlook the Atlantic Ocean. Most fairways are wide, but that doesn't mean Nicklaus was in a giving mood when he designed them. Strategically placed bunkers protect the holes, and the wind blows hard and long from the northeast in the winter and southwest in the summer. So, wide fairways are needed to give players a sporting chance.

And for those days when the wind is down, there is still this factor, a Nicklaus-design trademark, to content with: elevated greens that favor the player who can hit high fade shots, just like the man himself has done for more than 40 years.

Ocean Course, with all its challenges and charms, is the centerpiece of the Ocean Hammock Resort.
