Impact of Gulf Coast Oil Spill on Waterfowl |
|
|
Soon as you heard the news you knew it was bad. The more you've seen since, the worse it looks. But despite all the coverage of the oil spill, it's still hard to say exactly what the impact will be on fish, wildlife and, in particular, waterfowl.
As a hunter, you can't think about the oil spill and not think about waterfowl—after all, Louisiana's coastal marshes host nearly 20 percent of the nation's wintering waterfowl. We want the best, most up-to-date info on how it will impact the ducks.
To track the spill and its spread, check out the video animation above.
For predictions of the potential impact on waterfowl we recommend the 10-question Q&A from Ducks Unlimited. It offers answers on best and worst case scenarios and which waterfowl species are most at risk.
Thankfully this thing didn't happen in January when the birds are stacked in there, but the biggest question is, "Can it be cleaned up before the ducks return?"
DU has a bunch of other info, too, and is posting frequent updates so hunters can stay up-to-date. |
