Bring on the Birds! |
|
|
One of the best parts of gardening is enjoying the visitors it attracts—and birds are one of our favorites. Follow our tips to keep your feathered friends happy, healthy, and coming back for more:
• Don't clean up too much. Leave messy gardening materials such as straw, twigs, and moss in your garden. Birds will use them to build nests.
• Create shelter. Birds love bushes with thorns—they provide a refuge from predators such as neighborhood cats. Prune hedges either before or after the nesting season to avoid disturbing nests.
• Provide water and food. Ponds and birdbaths give birds a place to drink and bathe, while plants with edible seeds and berries provide food throughout the season.
