June 18, 2009 Enjoy the Rose, Forget the Thorns!
It may be true that every rose has its thorns, but given the choice, we'd like our roses without the prickles, thank you very much. Reaching into a rose bush to prune or pick a bloom sometimes feels like an epic battle: It requires special weapons, puncture-resistant armor, and a hearty dose of courage.
If you'd prefer to enjoy roses' beauty without the bite, check out four new thornless roses. Smooth Lollipop, Smooth Moonlight, Smooth Snowflake, and Smooth Sunglow join six other Smooth Touch roses specially bred to be 95 to 100 percent thorn-free. Buy these smooth new roses at independent garden centers and Lowe's home improvement stores—and leave your elbow-length rose gloves at home.
