June 2, 2009 Deer No More!
Have deer decided that your flower bed is their favorite lunch buffet?
If you're convinced that deer really are rats with antlers—and you've tried everything from human hair to bars of soap to keep them away—take heart. There's a new way to deter deer, and it doesn't involve messy sprays. Sweeney's All-Season Weatherproof Deer Repellent is tidily contained in a case atop a spike. All you have to do is push it into the soil every 4 to 8 feet or hang the little canister from trees and shrubs. Do this in spring, and you're all set—it'll last the whole growing season. The repellent canister contains natural dried blood, a scent-based repellent that deer detest. Fortunately, though, your human nose can't smell it. And since it's housed in plastic, it doesn't wash away with rain like other scent-based repellents. While no repellent will deter all deer all the time, give this one a try!
