April 9, 2009 Burt's Bees comes to the gardener's aid
Burt's Bees has a nearly magical reputation for making earth-friendly, good-smelling, skin-healthy products, and when they present a passel of potions that will relieve, protect, and defend a gardener's skin, you're going to want to investigate.
The Outdoor collection features favorites like dark green, lavender-scented Res-Q Ointment and lemony-spicy Herbal Insect Repellent spray, along with a new menthol-heavy balm called Muscle Mend. There's also the dense, waxy Miracle Salve (made from pumpkin-seed oil) to soothe dry hands, and Bug Bite Relief, a mixture of camphor and beeswax in a handy tube. The round, brown bar of Poison Ivy Soap is made from pine tar and smells like an evening around the campfire, for those times when you realize you've weeded a patch of poison ivy without gloves on. (It happens!) And Burt's Bees doesn't pull punches with packaging or ingredients. They use recycled materials and recyclable or reusable containers, their products aren't tested on animals, and they choose plant oils and extracts instead of petroleum byproducts. Sounds good, smells good, feels good.
