Trees not only add value to your home, but also set your landscape ablaze when leaves turn from summer shades of green to flaming autumn hues of red, yellow, and orange. To enjoy this golden season in your yard, plant species that are celebrated for their colorful fall foliage:

Chinese pistache (Pistacia chinensis, Zones 6 to 9). A stand-out in red-orange and deeper shades of crimson, this tree grows quickly in full sun to partial shade.

Male ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba, Zones 4 to 9) is unparalleled for its rich yellow color. Its fan-shaped leaves turn yellow all at once and flutter to the ground.

Japanese maple (Acer palmatum, Zones 6 to 8). The cultivar 'Glowing Ember' grows 18 feet tall, holds green leaves all summer, and blazes red-orange in autumn.

Northern red oak (Quercus rubra, Zones 5 to 9) makes an excellent landscape tree for larger yards. In fall, the red oak lives up to its name with foliage in deep shades of red, scarlet, or wine (occasionally yellow or orange).
